The Greeks are on their way back home from Troy after the battle. They stop at many different places on the way. They stopped by a country and met a cyclops. The cyclops is not friendly and eats many of Odyseus's men. Odysseus plans to get a stake and burn it in the fire then jam it in the cyclops ete. It works then they sneak out under his sheep's wool. Then they stop at another country and meet a nice king and his queen. He gives them a bag and says it contains powers to help them get home. His men get greedy and open it because they think it's goods but then the magic is released. Then end up far away from homes. Now they have landed on an island where this lady appears to be nice to them by letting them in and eat. She is in fact a witch and turned most of Odysseus's remaining men into pigs. Odysseus went to get them back and was given powers by a god so Circe's potion won't work on him.

I am reading the book The Odyssey by Homer. I have read 5 pages this week. I read the preface and a few pages in part one of the book. My favorite line of the book so far is when Odysseus is finally going home "after ten weary years of battle". He must feel really good to finally see his friends and family after so long away at war.

I am going to read The Odyssey by Homer. I got this book from the Boone High School library. I picked to read this book because I read The Iliad last semester. The Odyssey continues the story started by The Iliad. The book is about the adventures of Odysseus, a Greek hero. He was in The Iliad and fought along side Achilles. Odysseus goes through many adventures during this book. Odysseus id sailing home after the war with Troy ended. I have read only a little bit and right now the Greeks are leaving Troy after they defeated them in war.

Achilles-Major Character, in the beginning Achilles has his girl he won taken from him and refuses to fight for King Agemnon until his friend is killed. King Agemnon- major character, he is the king of the Greeks who are fighting with Troy over a stolen wife. Hector- Major Character, the best fighter of Troy who is slain in the end giving the advantage to the Greeks Apollo- Minor Character, God of war who does help the fighters of Troy protecting them
Summary-
Paris, from Troy steals Menelaus' wife who are both from Greece. King Agemnon is told to attack Troy because of this injustice doing. They go to war for a long time and Achilles refuses to fight along with his men the Myrmidons because his girl he won was taken away from him with approval of King Agemnon. When things are looking for the worst for the Greeks who are pushed back almost to their ships, Achilles friend Protoclus and the Myrmidons agree to help the Greeks but Achilles will not. Protoclus is killed in battle so Achilles decides to fight with the Greeks.
Rating
I give this book a 4 star rating. This book was very interesting throughout and I was wanting to read more until the very end but I didn't like how the gods were able to interfere with the fighting. That part didn't seem right to me. Protoclus was killed because of an unfair advantage. I liked how Achilles fought for his friend once he learned of his death. I liked how King Agemnon admitted his wronging to Achilles when he asks him to help them. I also liked how Achilles was caring enough to give Hectors body to his father.
Reactions
I don't think I am gonna read a book that a classmate did. Most of the books everyone else read sounded boring. I noticed a lot of people gave low ratings to their books. If they didn't like them, then i suppose i won't like them either. I think I am going to read the Oddysey also by Homer. It is the follow-up to The Illiad and sounds interesting to me.

In the novel so far Agamemnon has a priest's daughter and the priest asked for her back but he wouldn't give her back. Achilles is currently talking to him about the whole situation.
"Have no fear, Calchas but speak the truth to us and no man shall harm you" I liked this because Achilles was going to protect him. January 27, 2011
I have not chosen a book to read yet. I am not very familiar with any of these books so it will be a hard process choosing a book. I thought about possibly The Illiad because it was talked about in the movie Never Back Down which is my favorite movie. The Illiad was written by Homer and I don't know what it is about except there's something about a shield and maybe a war. Catch 22 also sounds like an alright book to read. Joseph Heller wrote this book and it is apparent that it was set in WW2. That's all I know about that book. I might also read the book Frankenstein because i've heard of him before. He was a big, scary monster.

My favorite books are ones that involve sports. I like sports they are interesting. I prefer to read books about football, baseball or basketball. I like movies better than books but books are also very entertaining. Huckleberry Finn was a good book that i read my junior year with Mrs. Reideler. Holes is a very good book I like to read that one. Every time I have read it, it never got boring. One Fat Summer is a good book I have read multiple times and doesn't get old. Where the Red Fern Grows is an awesome book I first read in elementary school.
